Copes with coal dust
December 1st 2004

A complete dust extraction system from Carter Environmental Engineers (CEE) is now in operation at Fiddlers Ferry power station coal plant.

The turnkey installation includes extraction hooding and ducting, Cyclovent venturi scrubber fanset, and air movement equipment.

The extraction system serves an underground conveyor and four uncoalers and is designed to drastically reduce the level of dust within the conveyor tunnel. The client believed the Cyclovent to be the best means of eliminating the explosion and fire risk associated with coal dust, and of reducing emission levels to below EPA requirements.

The Carter-Midac Cyclovent combines multi-stage cleaning in a single unit and CEE claims it typically needs 25% less energy for the same efficiency than conventional single-stage venturi scrubbers.
