Solder fume solution
February 1st 2004

To combat the health and safety issues surrounding solder fume, Purex International has developed a tip extraction and filtration unit for those who solder by hand.

These units are designed to remove hazardous fumes from up to 10 soldering irons and, with low capital and running costs, they are suitable for schools and colleges, light production soldering and a range of other applications.

To protect the operator from hazardous material, a powerful vacuum blower draws the solder fume directly from the tip of the soldering iron and through a sub-micronic filter. High quality hepa media is used in the filters to remove hazardous particles from the air stream, capturing 99.997% of particles at 0.3m and 95% at 0.01m in size. A large chemical layer in the filter then absorbs toxic gas before clean air is returned to the workplace.
