October 1st 2006 Gas Measurement Instruments (GMI) has introduced a carbon dioxide sensor for the Visa personal gas detector. The new sensor detects carbon dioxide by infrared in the range 0 to 5% volume, resolving to 0.05%, and provides High Alarm at 2.5%, stel alarm at 1.5% and ltel (twa) alarm at 0.5%. It is atex certified for use in confined spaces. Accuracy of detection is ensured as the infrared detection system is not affected by any cross sensitivity or pollution from other gases. A GMI warranty covers the cell for four years, with expected life to be more than five years.
