Gives a gas warning
August 1st 2007

Specialist third party logisitics company CERT FMCG Logistics has updated its Rotherham facility to become a Top Tier COMAH site. Helped by both Crown Lift Trucks and Pyroban, the company believes it has one of the safest operations for the storage and distribution of aerosols and health and beauty products.

John Hamilton, operations director, says "Six thousand pallets of aerosols equates to a lot of pressurised flammable gas under one roof. We estimated that at any one time we wouldn't have any less than 300t of LPG on site." HSE confirmed that if CERT wanted to handle this number of aerosols it would fall into the Top Tier COMAH (Control of Major Accidents and Hazards) Regulations.

The company also has to comply with DSEAR.

Crown Lift Trucks already supplied CERT and, following a full audit, implemented a replacement fleet programme consisting of TSP man-up VNA machines, WP2330S powered pallet trucks, ESR4500 reach and SC3200 counterbalance trucks.

Pyroban converted the machines so that they were safe for operation within the Zone 2 hazardous storage areas. System 5000E gas protection was used. This provides early warning of a problem and automatically shuts the equipment down if a hazard is detected.
