Managing explosion risk
October 1st 2006

Pyroban has been awarded a major contract to help a global brand in the food and flavours industry manage explosion risks from forklift trucks operating in potentially flammable atmospheres.

A total of 90 fork lift trucks will be converted by Pyroban to ensure that each one cannot be the source of an ignition when operated within storage and processing areas containing flammable materials.

The company's System 5000E gas protection has been selected for trucks used in the warehouse as it ensures that the truck operator is continuously aware of the environment. Visual and audible warnings are provided, followed by a controlled shutdown before an explosive atmosphere can develop.

An automatic gas test ensures the gas detection system is correctly calibrated and working properly each day for a wide range of hydrocarbons.

For trucks operating in the manufacturing and processing areas, Pyroban has included its Ex-Tec and Dust-tec systems that provide passive gas/vapour and powder/dust protections.
