AIRLINE SYSTEM MAKES JET PAINTING SAFER
June 1st 2005

Isocyanate or ‘Two Pack’ paints provide the durable finish required for jet aircraft.

However, isocyanates are highly toxic chemicals that can provoke severe allergic reactions in sensitised individuals.

Scott Health & Safety‘s Respiratory Airline System combines the mobility of a filter based air purifying respirator with the high level of protection offered by a positive pressure airline. Both products are contained within the same full facemask, affording complete protection from the hazard, while retaining flexibility of movement.

Exposure levels for isocyanates are low when paint is not being sprayed.

An operator can, therefore, walk to and from the workplace using a facemask and filter. When starting to spray, he connects to the pre-positioned airline, covers the filter and breathes through an airline via a face-mounted demand valve. On completion, he allows the air to clear, removes the filter cover, unplugs from the air supply and exits the workplace breathing through the filter.
