From the Secretary’s desk October 1st 2007 There is little doubt that the establishment of BSIF Enterprises has created a change of pace in the Federation's activity programme. The recent successes of the 2007 Networking Day, the establishment of the BSIF Directors Club and the innovative approach to the managing of member benefits in respect of overseas exhibition opportunities clearly illustrate a fresh injection of energy.
Looking to the future of providing exporting support services to members, in the context of diminishing government funding, the BSIF is now taking a fresh look at the ways in which the various available resources can be freshly crafted into a meaningful package to assist member companies to continue to successfully challenge overseas markets.
Current attention is focused on the Dubai exhibition in January and the Sicur event in February next year in Madrid. Interested readers can contact David Lummis or Peter Nicholls direct. Their details are in the 'contact' panel.
We have a busy programme over the next couple of months. Preparations are now advanced towards the publication of the BSIF's 2008 Guide later this year and, in passing, it is appropriate to express the Federation's thanks to this magazine for its continuing support. This year's Guide will be the second published in conjunction with Health & Safety Matters and is planned to be the best yet.
The BSIF's position seeking to avoid the publication of partlyharmonised EN standards for PPE and the recent issues over EN 14116 will likely be discussed in more detail at the PPE Standing Committee meeting at the Commission in Brussels next month. Rest assured that the BSIF will be present to argue the British corner.
Our second BSIF Directors Club Luncheon is being held at Lords Cricket Ground on 22nd November. A few seats are still available through BSIF Enterprises. The BSIF Annual General Meeting will take place in the morning. I hope that you find some items of interest within the BSIF pages. The BSIF always welcomes your views and opinions, especially on partly-harmonised standards and the need for competency accreditation – through the editor please.
