Need advice or information - contact the BSIF August 15th 2009 The BSIF receives enquiries on a daily basis on a broad range of health and safety issues. Much of this information is readily available on the BSIF website or in the BSIF Guide but, as has often been said before, the answers are only easy if you understand the question.
Almost without exception, our enquiries demonstrate that people are confused regarding the current regulations, often because they are not written in simple English. Many have little understanding of how to obtain safety products and equipment and, despite knowing that they need to do "something", have little idea of how to fulfil their obligations.
While a trade body with supply-side members, the BSIF has always promoted its "public service" role in seeking to assist better understanding of the need for adequate protection of people at work. "Yes, it is in our interests" said a BSIF spokesman "Because inadequate protection reflects on the supplier when people are injured, it is in our members’ interests that we try and prevent this happening despite the fact that these are employer rather than supply liabilities"
"If in doubt, just ring the BSIF. If we do not have the answer, we probably know someone who does."
