Progress on the need for accreditation August 15th 2009 The BSIF has long held the view that there should be a nationally accepted, industry self-regulated accreditation scheme for safety professionals that verifies competence (as an ability to perform and apply knowledge rather than a simple qualification) so that those requiring advice have a yard-stick to assist the recruitment or engagement of competent health and safety consultants and professional safety managers.
The recommendation from the Work and Pensions select committee and the positive response from Government that this issue would be addressed were welcomed by the BSIF, which is now pleased to be involved with the process to bring delivery to this commitment. "We recognise that there will need to be a basic research to validate the initial evidence that supports the principle that such a scheme should exist and that a targeted feasibility study needs to be carried out" said Geoff Hooke "And it is excellent news that these two elements are now being progressed" More articles from BSIF Enterprise: |
