Make sure you use 'safe' PPE
November 1st 2009

The British Safety Industry Federation (BSIF) has now launched a major new scheme to help companies buy genuinely "safe" PPE and other safety products - the BSIF Registered Safety Supplier Scheme. The scheme "shield" will be displayed by registered organisations and help buyer confidence by identifying companies offering genuine safety equipment.

Membership of the BSIF is dependent on integrity within the market and a commitment to ethical trading. Member organisations that join the scheme will be taking these requirements to the next level with a legally binding declaration that the safety products equipment they offer meet the appropriate standards, fully comply with regulations and are appropriately CE marked.

Registered Safety Suppliers will be required to include procedures in their quality manuals to ensure compliance with the scheme's requirements and periodic inspections will be made to verify the accuracy of these declarations.

The BSIF is committed to improving health & safety in the workplace and also has an important role to play on behalf of its members to raise the profile of safety. This scheme demonstrates a collective responsibility towards eradicating counterfeit and illegal products from the UK market.

For a listing of participating organisations, visit www.bsif .co.uk/registeredsafetysuppliers or call 01745 585 600.
