OSHCR: A big step in the right direction
April 1st 2011

The BSIF is pleased that the New Year has got off to such a great start with the online national register of occupational safety and health consultants now open for registration. The register has been set up by the professional bodies representing general safety and occupational health consultants across Britain, with support from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). The Federation has been involved with the register’s development from the beginning and will continue its involvement during the schemes development.

David Lummis, CEO at the BSIF, comments on OSHCR’s launch: “Unfortunately, there are always those who think they know more than they do and this register provides the perfect way to highlight the good health and safety consultants and weed out the not so good. The register, once up and running, will allow the continuous flow of well balanced and sensible advice to be dispensed to businesses that need health and safety guidance. The OSHCR will be a much welcomed addition to the sector.”

He continues: “It is refreshing to see that despite Lord Young’s early exit as a Government adviser, his recommendations in the ‘Common Sense, Common Safety’ report continue to carry momentum. This is of course vital to ensure that the health and safety sector’s reputation continues to improve year on year and those who are at risk are properly protected.”
