Safe handling of liquid spills September 1st 2009 Following the successful introduction of a British standard to regularise the ways in which sorbents are measured, the BSIF Sorbent Manufacturers Group is now initiating a performance standard for these products.
It is vital that companies using hazardous process chemicals have adequate supplies of sorbents to handle anticipated, emergency liquid spills and, if the performance characteristics of products are, often deliberately, overstated, there is a likelihood that supplies will be inadequate. This will result in the unsafe handling of liquid spills and will potentially generate increased risks of injury and harm to the people handling these spills. The Environment Agency and the National Chemical Emergency Centre are assisting the BSIF with this initiative. More articles from BSIF Enterprise: |
