Asbestos regs now in force
December 1st 2006

The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 came into force on 13 November. The revised regulations will strengthen overall worker protection by reducing exposure limits and introducing mandatory training for work with asbestos. They will also simplify the regulatory regime and implement revisions to the EU Asbestos Worker Protection Directive.

Details of what sort of work is licensable, the training necessary and how to under-take work with asbestos containing materials can be found in the ACoP 'Work with Materials Containing Asbestos'.

Guidance on the duty to manage asbestos can be found in 'The Management of Asbestos in Non-Domestic Premises' ACOP. Both are available from HSE Books (Tel: 01787 881165) and can be found in many booksellers.
