FIXING SYSTEM MEETS HIGH RISE CHALLENGE
June 1st 2005

high performance, styrene-free chemical fixing system from Rawl Fixings has helped demolition experts turn a 16-storey tower block into 7000t pile of rubble.

In minutes, Controlled Demolition Group removed the Capelaw Court tower block from the Edinburgh skyline. However, preparation had taken months and included the removal of asbestos rope from behind huge vertical concrete panels.

There were five panels to each floor and each weighed 0.75t and measured 2.5 by 1m. To remove the asbestos, contractors had to remove part of the lugs that secured the concrete panels to the building.

R-Kem+ resin and M10 studs were used to secure the panels, creating a safe environment and allowing the sub-contractors to safely remove the asbestos. In total, about 5000 studs were used for the project.
