New guardrail system
February 1st 2007

A new guardrail/platform system has been introduced by Langtons (Northallerton) to prevent falls from artic trailers and other flatbeds.

The Work at Height Regulations require measures to be taken to prevent falls from any height and HSE statistics indicate that 700 people die or are seriously injured each year falling from vehicles. Most accidents occur while loading or unloading, prompting Langtons to come up with a simple, low cost system to address the problem.

The solution is based on the company's Trestle Guardrail System which, when combined with standard builders' trestles and scaffold boards, enables a semi-permanent working platform to be provided at trailer loading/unloading positions.

Keith Caygill, director, says "We introduced our Trestle Guardrail System to the construction industry in 2005; it proved a huge success and we have been contacted by haulage contractors interested in using the system to prevent falls from trailers.

"We have therefore put together a specific package to suit a standard 45ft trailer which provides a solution to the problem for less than £1000."
