Bill reaches committee stage
October 1st 2006

The Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Bill has passed its Second Reading in the House of Commons, and will now progress to Committee Stage.

The Bill, which has further stages to go through before it becomes law, will introduce a new offence of 'corporate manslaughter'.

IOSH has long lobbied for this new offence. Neil Budworth, president, says "We are pleased that a number of our suggestions have been incorporated into the Bill, such as the removal of the need to prove a 'profit motive' in order to secure a conviction and the widening of the relevant duty of care."
