Wireless call point
December 1st 2006

To enhance incident response on construction sites, Siemens Building Technologies has developed Safety Man, a brightly coloured, near life size model of a 'stick' man which is fitted with wireless breakglass call points, a sounder and a strobe.

Safety Man is highly noticeable and memorable so that site workers know exactly where to find it in an emergency. The model shows which call point to actuate for a fire and which for a medical emergency, enabling users to summon appropriate aid without delay.

Wireless operation enables it to be sited where needed, typically one on each floor in large construction projects, and means that there are no trailing wires to pose a safety hazard.

Signals are transmitted to a central location, usually the security desk, where they are monitored and from where all responses are directed and co-ordinated.
