Avoid false economies
December 1st 2008

Industrial ladder specialist, Ladderstore.com is warning against the dangers of cutting corners and ignoring legislation in tough economic climates.

According to the company, businesses buying a Class 3 ladder designed for light domestic use because it is cheaper, will probably find it won't last the course if used regularly. This type of ladder is not manufactured to meet guidelines relating to regular use, nor is it designed for safe working loads of over 95kg – and that's total weight including tools, equipment and materials. So, if the person using the ladder (plus everything they are carrying) is over 14st 13lbs, and using the ladder more than occasionally, they are using the wrong ladder and risking an accident. Penalties include the issue of an Improvement Notice or prosecution – even if no accident has occurred.

In contrast, a Class 1 Industrial ladder is for heavy duty, high frequency use and has a maximum weight of 130kg (20st 6lbs). If you are in any doubt, Ladderstore.com will be happy to advise on the best ladder for the job.
