Pre-graded batten June 1st 2007 If roofing battens fail, the
consequences can be costly
and dangerous. Falling
through a roof may not only
be catastrophic for a roofer
or satellite installer, the
resulting negligence and
insurance claims could prove
catastrophic for the
contractor too.
It is well within the rights
of a health and safety
inspector or Clerk of Works
to demand that the entire
roof be stripped if battens
are found wanting – and tile
and slate warranties could
become invalid too in the
event of failure.
John Brash has developed
a process whereby battens
can be pre-graded at thee
sawmill, rather than relying
on grading on-site.
The high precision
scanning procedure involves
optical and laser scanning,
which ensures that every
batten passing down the
John Brash production line
is analysed at more than
250m/min.
The company says that
any defects are measured
and assessed for acceptability
against prescribed profiling
criteria, guaranteeing that
its RED battens are safe.
John Brash worked closely
with the Building Research
Establishment in developing
the RED battens. More articles from John Brash & Co. Ltd: |
