ATEX-COMPLIANT TRUCK PROTECTION
June 1st 2004

Sun Chemical manufactures and stores inks and varnishes for the printing industry at its site near Rochdale.

A new fleet of Hyster counterbalance and warehouse trucks from Barloworld Handling operates in the Zone 1 factory and the Zone 2 warehouse. Pyroban has modified all trucks with the latest atex-compliant explosion protection technology.

All Zone 2 warehouse trucks are fitted with System 5000E (3G) explosion protection. This incorporates: gas detection and protection of ignition sources.

The system undergoes a forced gas test upon each start-up, to ensure system integrity prior to operation. If a potentially flammable atmosphere is detected, an audible and visible alarm is activated at 10% LEL, followed by full truck shutdown at 25% LEL.
