SYSTEM STOPS FORK LIFT DRIVE-AWAYS
April 1st 2004

Castell has developed a new product, designed to protect fork lift drivers during loading/ unloading operations. It is offered at a price that the company says is a fraction that of alternative vehicle-restraint technologies.

Salvo consists of a mechanical key-holding cylindrical lock that is attached to the articulated trailers emergency air line, and an electro-mechanical lock inside the warehouse, fitted to the loading bay door. It forms a procedural link between trailer and bay door, forcing the driver to immobilise the trailer before the door is opened. If a trailer is not locked in place, loading cannot begin.

Once the emergency air line has been removed, the driver collects the Salvo and fits it onto the now exposed air line coupling. A coded Castell key is then released from the Salvo, locking the unit onto the coupling. The fitting of the Salvo prevents the air line being re-applied.

The key is taken to the corresponding loading bay Salvo exchange unit where its insertion releases a corresponding key in the warehouse. This opens the lock that controls the bay door.
