Avoids undue exertion
December 1st 2007

New from Caljan Rite-Hite is the Vaculex ParceLift, a vacuum lifting device that helps operators lift heavy parcels on and off conveyors.

By reducing the effort required, the device enables operators to work longer and more efficiently, and reduces the likelihood of musculoskeletal disorders.

The Vaculex ParceLift actively helps the operator to lift the load, so that undue exertion and incorrect lifting techniques are avoided.

Mike Hilton, Caljan Rite- Hite's UK MD, says "A recent study revealed operators lifting 10kg parcels from the floor to waist height, ten times a day, are in danger of injury. If operators lift weights of 35kg ten times a day, the risk is severe and employers should take immediate action." The Vaculex ParceLift comprises a vacuum system with a suction cup supported by an overhead swing arm. To lift a parcel, the operator positions the suction cup against it.

A pump creates a vacuum in the cup that 'sticks' it to the parcel. The parcel is lifted and moved using the power assisted swing arm, without any physical exertion by the operator.

An ergonomic handle incorporates all controls, allowing the operator to pick up, move and release an item as required.
