Cuts risk of injury
February 1st 2006

When Laurens Patisseries completed an extension to its building and installed two 60m ovens, it encountered serious manual handling problems.

Large mixing bowls were moved by hand from the mixing station to the oven depositors. Although the bowls were on wheels, the combined weight of the bowl and its contents was 600kg, and it was very difficult for two people to move them accurately.

Peter Smith, health and safety manager, opted for a stainless steel tug from MasterMover, with a special attachment welded to the Tonello mixing bowls.

He says "This combination provides easy movement and accurate positioning of the bowl into the mixer by one person and removes the possible back and foot injuries likely from the manual handling operation."

MasterMover provided initial training in the safe use of the tug.
