Geared for efficiency
June 1st 2007

Handling systems from Demag Cranes & Components have provided fitters at SSS Gears with total control of load movement, assisting in precision assembly and improving the efficiency of the production process As part of an upgrade to its fitting shops, SSS Gears sought a materials handling solution, which combined total flexibility of push/pull movement with smooth movement and accurate load positioning.

Demag supplied suspension cranes incorporating its KBKII/KBKIIR monorail system in two fitting shops.

Each system comprises two 14.5m long downshop rails, on which are mounted three 1000kg SWL-rated 3.5m single girder crane bridges. Each of the crane bridges has a 1000kg electric chain hoist from Demag's DC-COM range.

Power supplies are via bus bars, housed in the KBK track profile to protect against ingress of dust and debris, with current collectors in the travel carriages.
