Hoist service
February 1st 2007 Demag Cranes & Components has completed a major refurbishment project at USAF Lakenheath. The £1m contract involved the overhaul and restoration of 33 aircraft shelters used to house NATO F15 planes. Fundamental to the project was refurbishment of Demag wire rope hoists, used to tow aircraft into hangars for routine service and maintenance. The Demag P600 H26 drum hoists, rated at 2.5t, were originally installed in 1977. The service programme included changing bearings, seals, wire rope and rubber towing bells. New main control panels, wired at Demag's Banbury facility, were supplied and fitted to drive the hoists. Remote electrical panels and emergency stops were also installed in each of the 33 hangars. The company's service team was also responsible for the maintenance and, where necessary, the repair of drive units, which control the opening and closing of the two main hangar doors, each weighing 80t.
