Safety on track June 1st 2008 Helping maintain the
operating efficiency of
Caterpillar's lifting
equipment and light crane
systems at its steel track
shoes facility on Teesside is
the maintenance services
division of Morris Material
Handling.
In addition to carrying
out a rigorously planned
maintenance programme
across 90% of the
Caterpillar lifting equipment
at the 5000m2 site, Morris
Material Handling's Height
Safety Solutions Division
has designed and
commissioned a 'working at
height' horizontal lifeline
system that is installed on
an in-house paint line.
The site is responsible for
producing track shoes
ranging from 12 to 68kg,
that when linked together
form the 'Caterpillar track'
found on hydraulic
excavators and track type
loaders and tractors.
Morris Material Handling
undertakes a monthly
inspection of loose lifting
equipment. Individual items
are colour-coded for the
relevant inspection period,
making parts immediately
identifiable to personnel
that they are safe to use.
Morris also carries out a six
monthly inspection of onsite
jibs, and ensures that
Caterpillar meets its
commitments under LOLER98. More articles from Morris Material Handling Ltd: |
