Productive picking
February 1st 2004

Two new Wave work assist vehicles from Crown have brought about safer, more productive order picking routines for staff at the Warrington warehouse complex of Weldspares-OKI.

Employees used to rely on mobile steps to access products at heights in excess of 2m. However, as Mark Underwood, MD, says Moving steps around the place is not the most efficient way of operating a warehouse, nor is carrying goods up and down ladders a smart way to operate.

Operating at ground level, the Wave with a turning radius of just 1205mm can travel at a top speed of 6.5km/h. In the raised position, travel speed is reduced to a 3.2km/h.

For added safety, it has an automatic cut-out device that prevents operation above a height of 0.5m should the safety gates not be fully closed.
