Safer battery changes February 1st 2007 Food retailer Iceland has created more space for parking lift trucks, enlarged its maintenance area and eliminated manual handling since introducing batteries and related equipment from Hawker EnerSys for warehouse trucks at its Swindon distribution centre. The changes have improved the overall efficiency of the truck fleet and reduced downtime due to slow manual battery changes. Batteries were chosen for their performance and low overall footprint. The company opted for a semi-automatic solution that eliminated manual handling, with drivers responsible for changing their own batteries. A total of 135 Perfect Plus batteries were supplied, as well as chargers and special handling equipment. Hawker also supplied a battery car system to simplify changing. The car moves alongside the truck, retrieves the depleted battery and pushes-in a fully charged replacement – all in just a couple of minutes. More articles from Enersys Ltd: |
