Protects staff
August 1st 2004

Christian Salvesen has installed Castells Salvo system at its distribution site in Bury to protect staff from the risk of drive-aways.

Operatives are given an instant visual indication that loading/unloading can begin and time previously lost to confusion between operatives and drivers has been eliminated.

Arriving drivers must collect a Salvo lock from the office while handing over paperwork. Once the trailer has been reversed into the bay, the emergency airline is removed from the bulkhead and the Salvo fitted to the airline coupling.

The key can then be removed and is inserted into an electrical switch next to the loading bay doors. This prevents the trailer from being moved, powers up the bay and releases a corresponding key inside the bay.

The operative can then release the dock leveller and, by inserting their key into the electro-mechanical lock, free the locks bolt and open the bay doors.

Traffic lights outside the bay change from green to red, informing the driver that goods are being loaded/unloaded.
