Dangerous driving
April 1st 2006

Inspections of company and privately-owned cars and their drivers conducted by Total Motion showed that 14% of the vehicles were unroadworthy, 2% were untaxed and 17% were not properly maintained.

Checks on drivers revealed that 4% had invalid licences, 8% of those using private vehicles were not properly insured and 78% of all drivers admitted to not carrying out weekly checks on items such as tyres, lights, fluids and glass.

Total Motion's new Vehicle Monitor Service is designed to help businesses reduce the risks and costs resulting from poor maintenance, and ensure duty of care compliance with health and safety legislation.

Simon Hill, MD, says companies should be concerned as they can be prosecuted if an employee or contractor driving an unsafe or illegal car is involved in an accident while on business - whether the car is company or privately owned.
