Lamps boost health care
February 1st 2008

Royal Philips Electronics has provided lighting to enhance the medical and teaching facilities at Raigmore Hospital near Inverness.

While patient care is paramount, the centre was keen to ensure the wellbeing of its staff. With this in mind, Philips Master OptiView and ActiViva lamps were installed in specific areas of the hospital.

In the surgery recovery area, Philips OctiView replaced T8 halophosphate fluorescents lamps and allow greater accuracy of patient diagnosis. Having a colour rendering index Ra>90, OptiView is suitable for good visual observation of skin colour and makes it easier, for example, to locate veins.

The lamps have also been installed in all nine theatres.

Benefits claimed include longer service life and lower operating costs.

Staff in an admin office used to complain of headaches.

Installation of Philips Master ActiViva lamps has resulted in fewer complaints.

The lamp's blue-rich light of stimulates the biological clock and is said to make people feel more energised.
