For lone workers April 1st 2005 The NHS is to include the Identicom security device from Connexion2 as part of its arsenal against attacks on staff.
The device uses the same technology as a mobile phone. Looking like a normal ID holder, but equipped with a dual or triband GSM module, it enables a lone worker to discreetly raise an alarm and allows a third party to listen to what is happening and record evidence of abusive behaviour, whatever the distance.
The device can also support the identification of a worker’s location using enhanced location-based service (LBS) technology.
It measures 102 by 72 by 14mm, weighs 75g and includes a lanyard attachment that enables it to be worn around the neck as a standard ID. A rip alarm function is triggered if it is forcibly removed from the wearer.
Identicom can be configured in a number of ways, allowing an employer to adopt the device without significantly changing working practices. More articles from Connexion 2 Ltd: |
