Preparing staff to work alone October 1st 2007 Employer responsibility for
the health, safety and
welfare of workers does not
transfer to the employee
when working alone; it
remains the employer's duty
to assess risks and take
steps to avoid or control
them, even when the staff
member is working at home
or from a vehicle.
Lone working is helped by
advances in mobile
technology; however this
group of employees requires
special advice on health and
safety issues.
A new training booklet
called About Working Alone
has been introduced by
Scriptographic Publications
and advises on all the issues
facing lone workers, from
violence and theft to stress,
DSE and road safety.
The 16-page publication
talks about personal safety,
working with laptops,
manual handling risks and
adjusting the workstation.
