Ambient noise tester
February 1st 2009

To ascertain whether ambient noise levels exceed the 80dB eight-hour average exposure level set by the Noise at Work Regulations, without expensive monitoring equipment and assessments, the Oi- Noise tool emits a continuous sound at 80dB. If the Oi-Noise tool can be clearly heard when held about 40cm from the ear (half an arms length), then you know that the ambient noise is below the 80dB action level. Available from uvex, the product is battery powered, pocket sized and inexpensive; it requires no training to use, and the results require no interpretation.

Oi was designed by a chartered health and safety practitioner to allow anyone to identify noise hazards in the workplace without special knowledge or training.

uvex also distributes a range of hearing protection, from traditional ear muffs to ear plugs.
