Noise measurements in explosive atmospheres February 1st 2007 Regulations covering both noise at work and the environmental impact of industrial plant require noise assessments to be made from time to time to demonstrate compliance. This can present problems in those industries where intrinsic safety (IS) requirements apply to electronic instrumentation used for these measurements. Campbell Associates operates a sound and vibration instrumentation hire service that is already used extensively by health and safety and environmental control professionals. The service is now being extended to cover the petrochemical, mining and allied industries where IS controls apply by adding both noise dose meters and sound level meters with the necessary certifications for use in hazardous areas. These instruments are available for daily hire and are complete with full calibration certificates and computer download software. Noise dose meters are personal monitors worn by employees that will log their noise exposure during a working day and provide both the time averaged and peak sound exposure levels as required by the Noise at Work regulations. The sound level meters will measure the sound level over the range 30 to 140dB(A), as well as providing a time profile of the level. More articles from Campbell Associates Ltd: |
