Weighing help
February 1st 2006

Safety and accuracy are two of the benefits claimed for a new check-weighing system installed at the Lichfield hub of PalletForce.

Accurate weighing is vital to ensure safe placement of pallets aboard double-deck trailers. Poor distribution can leave trailers prone to rollover. Where previously forklift drivers had to use an educated guess as to the weight of the pallet, the new system allows them to place pallets based on factual information.

The system, supplied by Avery Weigh-Tronix, was chosen after extensive trials.

Durability was a key requirement and Avery's system was robust enough to maintain efficiency 10 months after being installed.

Similarly, with 5500 pallets coming through the hub nightly, speed is important.

The system delivers accurate weight information within seconds.

Each forklift truck has an intelligent indicator and thermal printer linked to the scales.

Carl Worgan, operations director at PalletForce, says "Having a reliable guide to the weight of each pallet is a huge benefit to our hub operation in terms of safety and efficiency."
