Photoluminescent way-guidance syste August 1st 2008 Jalite has introduced a new
range of photoluminescent
way-guidance systems to
help organisations comply
with the Regulatory reform
(Fire Safety) Order 2005 as a
function of disaster and as a
change to the risk
assessment matrix.
In the 1993 bomb attack
on the underground garage
of the World Trade Centre, a
total blackout descended on
the thousands of occupants
inside. Generators providing
power to emergency lighting
were destroyed forcing
occupants to evacuate in
complete darkness.
Following this attack,
photoluminescent paint was
applied to the stairwells to
provide visual guidance to
occupants. When 9/11
occurred, the paint system
was put to the test, and at
least one-third of the
survivors interviewed
recalled that the system was
useful and reassuring, aiding
their evacuation.
Products available from
Jalite include paint systems,
stair edge markers and
safety signage. More articles from Jalite plc: |
