Communicating the safety message June 1st 2006 Timcon, the timber packaging and pallet confederation, is playing a fundamental role in helping the HSE communicate potentially life saving information to the industry.
That was the message from Alan Scobbie, a senior manufacturing sector inspector from the HSE, speaking at this year's Timcon AGM on health and safety in the woodworking industry.
He pointed out that with more than 70% of the accidents in the industry being attributable to incorrect manual handling, poor use of machinery, including the kick-back from saws, or tripping or slipping most could be avoided if companies were prepared to invest in specialist lifting equipment and appropriate training for employees.
Timcon offers its members access to a professionally endorsed, modular training programme. It is delivered by members' own appointed in-house trainers and impacts on areas such as safer working, a reduction in injuries and downtime and improved efficiency. |
