Free training support October 1st 2006 The Department of Health has awarded the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health a contract to train all local authorities in England to support the implementation of the smokefree legislation that comes into force in summer 2007. The training, free to local authorities, will ensure all regulatory officers responsible for implementing the provisions of the smokefree legislation in England have the knowledge, practical skills and strategies to achieve maximum and consistent compliance. Speaking at the CIEH's conference in Bournemouth, Andrew Black, who leads the Smokefree Legislation Team at the Department of Health, comments "The smokefree provisions of the Health Act 2006 will make a significant contribution to public health." He believes the CIEH was awarded the contract in recognition of its reputation and experience in promoting public health. Local authority officers can register their interest via a download form from: www.cieh.org/events. They will then be contacted with information on the training.
