Simple safety sheets
April 1st 2004

Chemical safety at work is aided by new data sheets from Environmental Science.

Single page sheets, known as WASPS (Workplace Action Safety Protection Sheet) use a mixture of pictograms and colours for each chemical in a way that is easy to understand. They can be fixed to machines or workstations for immediate display and operational safety reminders.

The document does not attempt to replace the full safety data sheet, but does provide workers with a visual summary of essential information, alerting them to potential hazards and safety actions.

Documents come in two forms: technical; and operational. WASPS/OPS, for example, can also help with coshh assessments.
