Managers failing to encourage green behaviour
February 1st 2011

A new survey has shown that 70% of workers believe their managers lack commitment to pro-environmental behaviours with 65% believing unclear leadership contributes to the lack of pro-environmental behaviours.

The study, presented at the British Psychological Society’s Occupational Psychology Conference, explored the type of pro-environmental initiatives organisations currently use and how they encourage their staff to be pro-environmental.

Dr Lara Zibarras who led the survey, commented: “Whilst the survey found that organisations were generally ‘doing their bit’, the initiatives were more on the scale of convenience such as saving paper or switching lights off rather than fundamental activities such as purchasing green energy or carbon off-setting.”
