EU launches Health & Safety for businesses website
December 12th 2005

The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work in partnership with a network of Euro Info Centres has launched a new website to provide businesses with good practice information in occupational health and safety.

http://osha.eu.int/business enables businesses to find relevant information on legislation and includes a special section for SMEs - http://sme.osha.eu.int - to guide them to sources of advisory services and good practice to ease the compliance process.

While accidents in the workplace fell by 8 % in 2004/2005, 220 UK workers were killed, 30,213 workers suffered major injuries and a further 120,346 sustained injuries that kept them off work for more than three days. As a result British business lost 35 million working days - at a cost of billions. Compensation claims will also take their toll.
