Boost our industry image, says IOSH
December 12th 2006

"It's time health and safety professionals were given credit for getting things right instead of constantly fighting claims that we're no-good killjoys developing a Nanny State," says IOSH President, Lisa Fowlie. She urges H&S practitioners to all they can to improve and promote a positive perception of the profession.

"We'll never be able to change the image of our profession unless we actively do something about it," Fowlie continues. "There's a myth that we want to stop all risk, with pear trees fenced off in case the fruit lands on people's heads and ponds filled in to stop people falling in them. The list of silly issues too often overshadows the reality that we are the people, often behind the scenes, that make things happen... If we let these ridiculous examples take our eye off the big issues another tragedy like Buncefield or Hatfield could be waiting to happen."
