How to make smoke-free pain free
December 11th 2006

Workplaces in the UK will all be smoke-free by July 2007, which means that employers who don’t already have a no-smoking policy should put it at the top of their to-do list for the New Year, says IOSH.

The Institution has produced a free guide to help employers do this: A breath of fresh air – Introducing a smoke-free policy at work. It explains how to develop a no smoking policy, how to involve staff and, most importantly, how to monitor the policy and make sure it’s working.

The TUC also has a simple guide containing advice on how employers should go about closing smoking rooms, how to introduce smoking restrictions and how help smoking staff give up. "Don't wait until the last minute," advises Brendan Barber.
