Mail-based attack protection March 2nd 2006 Union Industries’ chemical, biological, radiation and nuclear (CBRN) division has developed a mail opening enclosure to protect individuals from Bio toxic attacks. The Scan-a-Post, which allows letters and parcels to be safely opened under continuous negative pressure filtration conditions, greatly reduces the risk for individuals and buildings to be affected by ‘white powder’ postal attacks.
The unit provides a key benefit to business continuity planning by reducing both the disruption to productivity and the financial implications of a major decontamination exercise. Scan-a-Post not only reduces the danger of toxic airborne particles infecting post room operatives but also the threat to other building occupants. Scan-a-Post maintains a constant filtered negative pressure within the enclosure ensuring that during loading and unloading the unit with mail there is sufficient negative airflow to prevent the escape of toxic dusts. An automatic mail opening system is supported by manual parcel opening facilities through the use of supple glove protection.
Designed by Union Industries’ Environmental Division with over 25 years of experience in toxic containment for Nuclear, Aviation and Chemical Industries the Scan-a-Post is fitted with a Biological Air Filtration Unit and an ultraviolet radiation source, which destroys any airborne particles.
Any powdered contaminants that are released within the unit can be visually identified through the Scan-a-Post black work surface. Scan-a-Post also includes clear observation panels, which are static coated to attract airborne particles to the toughened glass. |
