Zero tolerance... That's all folks... September 4th 2006 As the HSE urges over-zealous practitioners to get a life, TV regulator Ofcom has decided to cut smoking scenes from Tom and Jerry cartoons after investigating a complaint.
Outraged fans of the classic cartoons have branded the decision absurd. Some have even launched petitions to attempt persuade Ofcom to reverse its ruling. Click here for one such petition.
It is not yet known whether Ofcom will order the removal of scenes depicting anvils falling on Tom's head or Jerry smashing him in the face with frying pans. Nor is it clear whether other cartoons, such as The Simpsons, will face similar censorship.
