Construction Skills launches industry’s first plant safety training scheme December 6th 2007 In what is says is a first for the UK construction industry, ConstructionSkills is launching a Plant Managers Safety Training Scheme (PMSTS), specifically designed to help managers in the plant sector to improve health and safety across their workforce.
The launch of this landmark course, the first health and safety course to be designed specifically for those working with plant, has been highly anticipated by the industry. It follows in the footsteps of the highly successful Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) and it has been developed in partnership with key federations including the Construction Plant Association.
PMSTS, which has been piloted at National Construction Colleges (NCC) this year, aims to improve the management of health and safety on site and to give a thorough explanation of managers’ responsibilities and accountabilities, according to current legislation. It covers the small plant and tools sector, as well as heavy construction plant and will be attended by plant instructors, plant inspectors, workshop managers, project managers and agents, as well as plant managers.
ConstructionSkills has consistently placed health and safety at the top of its agenda. The introduction of the PMSTS course will expand the range of safety training courses already available, which are grouped under the Site Safety Plus Scheme. NCC have PMSTS courses scheduled throughout 2008 and they are already taking bookings for these from companies across the UK.
