Smoking ban bit of a fag?
January 8th 2008

A German restaurant owner has come up with an ingenious solution to getting round the smoking ban - cutting holes in the wall so customers can stick their heads out to have a cigarette.

According to news site Ananova, when local authorities introduced a smoking ban in all eating places, Michael Windisch, owner of the Maltermeister Turm bar and restaurant in Goslar, Lower Saxony, decided to cut three holes in the walls next to dining tables.

Michael's idea allows smokers to have a cigarette without leaving the premises by sticking their heads through the large holes and their hands through the other two. Michael has also put up a curtain to keep smokers warm while they puff.
