Making the grade

Under-performing product is a major problem to any company. In the health & safety world, it can be worse than that, causing potentially serious injury to users or a major hazard for the company.

BSIF, in association with other trade associations or agencies, has been actively involved in ensuring the product claims made by manufacturers are both achieved in day to day use and quantifiable in testing.

Areas such as the performance of Hi Viz garments, spill absorbency products and pre-work creams, where performance claims have been excessive or the product just failed to meet the required CE standard have been in the spotlight, resulting in improvements in quality or more realistic performance claims being made.

If you have serious concerns about a particular product, please contact BSIF at b.s.i.f@virgin.co.uk and we will investigate.

We have in the past found on many occasions, the performance or claim can be quantified and we can’t guarantee to resolve every situation. However, with Safety, perhaps it is better to be safe than sorry.
