Reduce lost time incidents and improve productivity June 7th 2007 Unforeseen downtime caused by incidents due to static electricity can be costly. By installing static control equipment from Meech International, thousands of pounds can be added to the bottom line as the ‘invisible danger’ is eliminated, says the company.
Meech’s antistatic solutions help to protect the well being of the workforce from the possibility of electric shocks and subsequent injuries and also ensure that the working environment is adequately protected against the risk of fire and explosion due to electrostatic discharge.
In a factory environment machinery operators may receive a shock directly from the product they are working with or become charged through induction. Induction occurs when they are standing in the electric field of a charged object, such as operators adjacent to a plastic web during the unwinding and rewinding processes. The charge builds up until the operator touches an earthed part of the machine and then discharges, resulting in shock. The shock itself is unlikely to cause any serious harm, but if it is strong enough to cause a recoil reaction, then accidents and injury may occur as the operator collides with a colleague, with a machine frame or stumbles into the path of moving machinery.
Meech manufactures a comprehensive range of static control equipment that provides effective prevention of electrostatic shocks. The Meech range of ionising blowers is widely used throughout industry for this purpose. Including benchtop, worksurface and overhead versions, Meech blowers are all specified for a high level of performance and functionality, securing the workforce a comfortable static-free environment, reducing lost time incidents and improving productivity.
